Community Conversations: Johnson County Community College Capstone Honors Students

December 16 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

We all bring our own bias to the museum or the exhibit. But what if we were challenged to change filters? What if we were encouraged to consider the material nature of objects, their life cycle, and the consequences of summarily discarding them? What if we allowed the exhibit to shape cultural perceptions, and avoided letting our cultural perceptions and assumptions taint our visit?

Members of the community are invited to join students of a capstone honors course at Johnson County Community College for this conversation.

Community Conversations are opportunities to discuss topics connected to Portraits of Childhood: Black Dolls from the Collection of Deborah Neff. Each one is led by a different community member. All are welcome to attend these conversations and consider different perspectives around the exhibition. The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures offers FREE admission and parking to attendees. UMKC students receive FSE credit for attending.

If you would like to learn more, or have a suggestion for a future Community Conversations event, please contact Madeline Rislow, Curator / Sr. Manager of Learning & Engagement rislowm@toyandminiaturemuseum.org.
