Meet the Experts: Board Game BreakdownGame on! Join T/m for a live virtual panel discussion exploring a long-time favorite: board games. Learn about some of the historical board games on display at T/m and chat with our panelists about the collectability, design, and community of board games. The event panel features Paul DiTroia (collector), Ben Mora (Kansas City Game Designers), Walter Stewart (TableTop Game and Hobby) and Laura Taylor (T/m Curator of Interpretation). Registration required for this FREE online event: CLICK HERE TO REGISTER About the Panel Paul DiTroia: An avid game collector originally from New York, DiTroia moved to the Midwest in 2001. Besides playing and collecting board games, his hobbies include cooking, reading, and travelling and spending time with his daughter. Ben Mora: Mora is a senior visual designer at Garmin International, where his primary focus is children's fitness gamification for wearables and apps. He has an animation degree from Johnson County Community College, and has loved playing and creating board games his entire life. Walter Stewart: A lifelong gamer, Stewart has worked professionally in the game industry for over 10 years. A chance encounter with Hero Quest as a wee youth set awoke a love of a variety of nerdy pursuits, with games at the forefront. He is currently the general manager at TableTop Game & Hobby in Overland Park, Kansas. Laura Taylor: Taylor has been with T/m for 15 years, first as the museum educator before assuming her current role as curator of interpretation. She has a master's degree in art history from UMKC and a bachelor's degree in history from Friends University.

Meet the Experts: Hanna-BarberaHave a yabba-dabba-doo time with this live virtual discussion featuring longtime Hanna-Barbera collector Dr. Thomas Bradbeer. Bradbeer will share how he began collecting, discuss how he manages and preserves his extensive collection, and provide tips on how to best preserve your own collection. After serving 25 years in the United States Army, Bradbeer earned a PhD in history from the University of Kansas and now spends his days as a college professor, teaching organizational leadership to military officers at the Army's prestigious Command and General Staff College. Bradbeer credits his interest in Hanna-Barbera to growing up watching Saturday morning cartoons in the 1960s and 70s with his two brothers. He began collecting all things Hanna-Barbera in 1989 and has since amassed more than 500 artifacts. Meet the Experts: Hanna-Barbera will be hosted by Bradbeer's daughter, Samantha Bradbeer, historian at Hallmark Archives and an avid Archie Comics collector. Learn why museums have limits on what objects they will accept, why collection policies and procedures are so important, and the decision-making that went into some of T/m’s most recent acquisitions. Amy McKune, T/m Curator of Collections

Amy McKune has served as T/m’s Curator of Collections since 2017. She holds a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Kenyon College and a master's degree in History museum studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program, SUNY – Oneonta. During McKune's 30-year career, she has served in curatorial and collections management positions for five museums. Between 1992 and 1996, she played a key role in creating the new Washington State History Museum (Tacoma, Wash.) and a 23,000 ft² long-term exhibition on Washington State’s history. McKune is drawn to topics related to equity for women and was the lead curator on T/m's award-winning exhibit Bridging the Gender Divide: Toys That Build STEM Skills.

Laura Taylor

T/m's longest-tenured employee, Laura Taylor has been with the museum for 15 years, first as the museum educator before assuming her current role as curator of interpretation. She has a master’s degree in art history from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a bachelor’s degree in history from Friends University. In 2020, Taylor received the UMKC Living the Values Award for excellence in demonstrating the university's key values: learning, diversity, integrity, accountability, respect and collaboration.
